What is an implant?
It is the process of placing the artificial tooth root made of titanium material compatible with the tissues to the jaw bone in order to restore the function and aesthetics of the missing teeth.
How to make an implant?
It is a surgical procedure performed in a single session under local anesthesia.
Basically, what is missing is the insertion of a titanium screw into the tooth cavity. After the screwing is completed, the opened gingiva is closed again. After the implant-bone healing is completed in a few months, the cover of the implant is opened and a cap is attached to shape the gingiva. After the gingiva is shaped, the impression is taken and the porcelain or zirconium coating to be applied on it is prepared.
In which cases an implant is applied?
- In cases where there is a tooth deficiency, if we do not want the teeth next to the cavity to be treated, implants are made instead of the missing tooth / teeth.
- In patients who use full dentures (palate), when the prosthesis is not stable in the mouth, the patient cannot eat, speak or chew comfortably. In this case, the prostheses are fixed with implants placed in the jawbone and a more stable prosthesis is obtained.
- Patients who have no teeth in their mouths or who have lost most of their teeth must wear and remove, use a removable partial prosthesis or palate. However, an implant option is available for our patients who do not want to carry a removable prosthesis in their mouth and seek a solution that will remain in their fixed mouth.
In which situations is the implant preferred? What are the advantages of implant?
Implants are biocompatible screws placed in the jawbone that imitate the lost tooth root. One of the biggest advantages of the implant; For the treatment of the deficiency, it provides the opportunity to recover only the missing tooth without cutting the teeth next to the cavity. In this way, your solid teeth do not have to be used as a support and do not undergo any treatment. For our patients who do not want to use removable (removable) prostheses, we can prepare fixed prostheses by getting support from the implant. It is also possible to make full dentures that are stable and provide ease of use with the help of the implant in full dentures that have difficulty in terms of use, move a lot in the mouth and have a retention problem.
Is implant a painful procedure?
No pain or pain is felt during the operation performed under local anesthesia. After the procedure, the patient can continue his daily work and there is no restriction on eating and drinking. If you use your medications regularly, taking into account the recommendations of your doctor during the healing process, you can overcome this phase without any problems.
How long will implant treatment take to complete?
It is possible to prepare the porcelain coatings that will come to the upper structure of the implants 3 to 6 months after the surgical procedure. This 3-6 month period we are talking about is the period we call the "healing process" in which the implant is well integrated into the jawbone. There are some factors that shorten / prolong this process. The brand of the implant used and the reaction of the jawbone can be the most important of these factors.
Which material is the implant made of? Is there any harm to the human body?
The titanium material used in the implant is compatible with the gums and jawbone. It does not cause allergies in the human body. It is resistant to breakage. Titanium is a stainless metal and is resistant to high temperatures. It is not affected by many strong chemicals such as acetic acid, calcium chlorite, ammonium chlorite, nitric acid.
